Many parents are unsure when to take their child to the dentist for the first time but fortunately the Bite team are on hand to help! Our expert consultants give advice on when’s best for their first visit and how we can make the experience a positive one that your child will enjoy:
We recommend that you book your child’s first visit to the surgery when they gain their first tooth, or no later than two years old. This first appointment will be more of an introduction than a full-dental consultation, which gives our team the perfect chance to get to know your child and ease them into the experience.
Your child’s first visit to our practice is an ideal way for them to familiarise themselves in a surgery environment. It’s a great way for us to not only do a quick examination on their teeth, but also look for other general health issues - such as speech patterns and their jaw and bite. It’ll give us a chance to give some advice on oral hygiene and is a great relaxed environment for parents to ask any questions they may have about dental care.
After your child’s first visit we recommend that you bring them in for follow-up checks every six months, unless advised differently by one of our specialists. Each visit will give them a chance to progress a little further in confidence, and their dentist will gradually introduce them to different pieces of equipment and processes, such as brushing their teeth with fluoride.
There are a number of things you can do to help ensure that your child’s first visit is a positive one, including:
At Bite Dentistry our experienced family dentists pride ourselves on our rapport with patients and their families - building a level of trust and confidence that enables children to enjoy their visit and remove any fears. If you or your child is apprehensive about their visit you can come and speak to our team members, who will be more than happy to arrange a consultation in a relaxed environment.
