Eimear and her team build excellent, long-term relationships with patients and as well as a sympathetic ear and calming chairside manner, offer hypnosis, anxiety management and three types of sedation; intravenous, gas and air, and oral sedatives.

Intravenous (IV) sedation is a Valium-based drug injected into the back of the hand. It is sometimes called conscious sedation because you are not ‘put to sleep’ but are in a very relaxed state. Most patients prefer this type of sedation because there is often no memory of the procedure afterwards therefore making this the most effective way of calming people who are extremely nervous.

RA sedation (relative analgesia) or gas and air can be used for children and adults who are really nervous of the dentist and it is especially useful for people with needle phobias.

Oral sedation is a Valium-based tablet that can be prescribed to take the evening before dental treatment and in the morning to help ease anxiety. This is also a good method for patients who are afraid of needles.
